Original French M1951 Steel Pot Helmet w/ Liner and Chin Strap
This French military Modèle 1951 replaced various helmets such as the Adrian and US M1. It was produced between 1951 and 1976. It was officially replaced by the M1978 but remained in service into the 1980’s. Note the similar characteristics that this helmet shares with the US M1 helmet but has a different shape. The M51 has a shorter visor in the front and wider slopes on the sides and back. This helmet shell is dated 1952 and the liner is 1953. This helmet was the model used during the Algerian war between 1954 and 1962.
