      Sizing Chart

      * Hat size – Measure across your brow just above your ears, keeping the tape parallel to the floor (for females). For male and generic sizes, divide the measurement in inches by 3.14 to obtain your hat size to the nearest 1/8".

      * Collar – Measure around your neck at the point where the collar is worn, pulling the tape tight enough to remove gaps between the tape and the skin, but not so tight as to depress and discolor the skin. Round up to the next ½" for your collar size.

      * Chest/bust – While standing erect, measure around the largest part of the chest or bust with the tape passing under the arms, remaining parallel to the floor, and snug*.

      * Waist – Measure around your waist where the trousers are worn; generally this is the smallest part of the waist. Pull the tape snug*.

      * Hips – While standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hips or seat, keeping the tape parallel to the floor and snug*. Remove wallets and cell phones from your pockets prior to taking the measurement.

      * Skirt length – Measure from your waistline to the center of your kneecap.

      * Inseam – Measure the inside seam from the crotch to the bottom of the trouser leg.

*Snug means that the tape is tight, but yet loose enough to slide your hand under the tape.

      2) European/NATO Size Chats

How NATO / British Army sizing works
NATO sizes are made up of 6-digit numbers which represent metric cm sizing for different parts of the body. This is how many army products are sized in Europe, so it’s worth being aware of the conversions. They are structured as below.

NATO / British Army Jackets & Shirt Sizes
With shirts and jackets, NATO sizes will be displayed as ‘xxx/yy’ where ‘xxx’ is your full height in cm (not the length of the garment) and ‘yy’ is your chest size in cm.

NATO / British Army Trouser Sizes
Trousers are sized as ‘xx/yy/zz’ where ‘xx’ is your waist size in cm, ‘yy’ is inner leg size in cm and ‘zz’ is seat size in cm.

      3) East German Size Charts/Codes

      East German Uniform Sizes
Widths are like normal European sizing widths, except they do not affect length, and some sizes are left out to simplify things.

People vary primarily in height and width. The East Germans took this into account in a very special way, combining the European sizing system numbers with German language and East German specialties.

      Widths

Widths are like normal European sizing widths, except they do not affect length, and some sizes are left out to simplify things.

As a special touch suffix numbers are used to account for different body types, for an example SK48-0 or G52-1. These add or subtract 8 cm (a wee bit short of 3") from the waist as follows:

      • 0 = -8 cm, Athletic body with slender waist
      • No suffix = No effect, normal body type
      • 1 = +8 cm, Dad body
      • 2 = +16 cm, Beer belly

      Lengths

Lengths are determined by letter codes. They are short for German words Sehr Klein, Klein, Mittelgroß, Groß, Sehr Groß and Übergroß. Here's what they mean:

All East German Uniform items were letter coded to indicate the year of manufacture from 1968 onward.  Prior to this the actual year and possibly also the quarter was usually stamped into the uniform item.
