Soldier Modified
Soldiers may modify their equipment for a variety of reasons, including comfort, mission, and personal preference. However, unauthorized modifications are prohibited by regulations and can impact safety, survivability, and a soldier's ability to complete their mission. Permanent modifications are also not allowed, and all small arms must be returned to their original configuration when they are returned to the U.S. government.
Some examples of modifications that soldiers may make to their equipment include:
- Weapons: Adding sites, shortening the barrel, or installing a forward hand grip or collapsible stock
- Body armor: Reducing the size to protect vital organs and adding a shooter's cut to improve rifle placement
- Vests: Adding pouches for ammo, maps, or water bottles
