This winter cap is chuck full of warmth. It is the warmest hat by far. The exterior is a grey/blue boiled wool combination. The side, neck and frontal flaps are of a tightly tufted faux fur in the greatest sky blue hue. The interior is of a tightly quilted fabric. That is a definite benefit because the closer the quilting, the more pockets to hold in body heat. It is a beautiful European military Winter cap.
This does not come with an emblem.
An ushanka, also called a shapka-ushanka, trooper or a trapper's hat, is a Russian fur cap with ear flaps that can be tied up to the crown of the cap, or tied at the chin to protect the ears, jaw and lower chin from the cold. The thick dense fur also offers some protection against blunt impacts to the head. While no match for a helmet, it offers protection far superior to that of a typical beanie cap should the wearer fall and hit his or her head against ice or packed snow. The word ushanka derives from ushi, "ears" in Russian.
